Synopsis Novel Bound

This novel tells about two main characters named Sasana and Jaka, and their struggle in the search of freedom. Sasana was born at the established family. Although Sasana’s parents are not a musician, they are expected him to be a pianist. Finally Sasana be a good pianist, he won some awards, but actually he doesn’t like in playing piano.

 He likes Dangdut than playing piano. He feels so free when he was listening music Dangdut while singing, dancing and moving his body follows the music. Absolutely it’s forbidden by his parents. Because he did not want to disappoint his parents, Sasana still follows his parent’s will although his life is trapped.

After graduated from senior high school, he continues his study at the university in Malang. There he picks acquaintance with Jaka at the coffee shop. Jaka is skilled at playing guitar especially at the music Dangdut. It makes Sasana feels comfort, finally he taken part in singing and dancing. Jaka is interested of the expertness of Sasana’s dancing and singing. So Jaka he asks Sasana to join with him to be a singing beggar. Sasana agree, and then Sasana decided to leave his study and keep away from his friend and family in Jakarta.

To make their performance become more interested, Sasana is dressing up like a woman and then they start to be a singing beggar. Sasana changes his name to be Sasa. He enjoys his change in being a woman. He feels comfort dressed like that.

One day Jaka’s friend named Marsini. She works as the laborer treated unfairly. She gets impregnated by her boss. Her boss wouldn’t to be responsible. To against the oppression, they went on strike action to fight for the Jaka friend’s fate. It makes both of them under arrest or catch by the police. At the jail, Sasana was tortured by the police and commander that catch him up. It makes Sasana feels so disappointed. After out of the jail then he decided to back to his family and starts everything from the beginning. But he always remembers his bad experiences when he was at the jail. Finally it makes him being insane and he should be sent to psychiatric hospital. Sasana’s life is trapped one more time. After out of the jail, Jaka runs away to Jakarta and finally he is joined with the group of people or troops white-robed to battling for the god and religion.
